"Crafting a legal argument is like putting together the pieces of a puzzle. I love to strategize and think creatively to make the words and arguments fit together in a compelling manner."

Overview

Written advocacy is a powerful litigation tool — one which Ifrah Law Associate Abbey Block wields with great skill. Abbey Block found her path in law as a journalism major, coupling her passion for advocacy through writing with her litigation experience to create persuasive, effective arguments.

Prior to joining Ifrah Law, Abbey served as a judicial law clerk in Delaware’s Kent County Superior Court, where she was exposed to both trial and appellate court litigation. Her work included analyzing case law, statutes, pleadings, depositions and hearing transcripts to draft bench memoranda and provide recommendations to the judge. She also assisted in drafting opinions that decided dispositive motions and appeals from lower courts and administrative agencies.

While earning her law degree at William & Mary Law School, Abbey held three additional extern and clerk positions. As an extern for the Williamsburg James City County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Abbey was involved in all stages of prosecuting misdemeanor matters, from interviewing law enforcement officers and other witnesses to negotiating plea agreements. She served as a summer law clerk for the Delaware Department of Justice, where she honed her writing and legal research skills on a variety of topics, including consumer protection statues and issues of civil procedure. Abbey also worked as an extern for the York Poquoson Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, conducting research, writing memos and pretrial motions, and assisting with witness preparation and discovery.

As an undergrad, Abbey was a member of the Moot Court Team and earned Top Orator at the South Texas Regional Moot Court Tournament. She received her J.D. from William & Mary Law School, graduating cum laude with a Criminal Law and Procedure Concentration. Abbey served on the William & Mary Law Review and earned membership with The Order of the Barristers, an advocacy honor society, and the Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society. She was also a member of the William & Mary National Trial Team, and served as the team’s Lead Recruitment Counsel.
